During this experiential, 5-Day intensive, participants will journey into and through Dagara wisdom- remembering that we are, each of us, going somewhere purposeful in life.  Through the healing interaction of ritual within community~ we will access powerful, ancient and indigenous wisdom & technologies that will assist us as we go forward. 

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

 “Dagara people’s main job is to look the dead in the face, to treat their bodies not as remains but as temples of grace and beauty continuing from this world to the other. People grieve the passing of loved ones, though in this grief they stress beauty and community and continuity. The handing over of the loved one to the realm of the ancestors is what we call ancestralization”. It allows for a sense of completion in the vast array of duties following the passing of a person. In this five-day event, we will address this issue of fulfilling our duties toward the dead in the interest of transforming restlessness into rest, discontinuity into continuity and homelessness into homecoming.” -Malidoma Patrice Some´

Program Schedule:

Wednesday: Arrive anytime after 4pm to Register and get settled in~ and not later than 5pm.
We will begin promptly.

~ If you have special dietary needs/snacks-please feel to bring them along. A full-kitchen is at your disposal.

~Dinner will be provided.

~We will be in our Opening Circle in the evening.

Thursday:

~Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner will be provided.

~We will be in Circle & Ritual all day.

Friday:

~Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner will be provided.

~We will be in Circle & Ritual all day with an all-night vigil by the Fire.

Saturday:

~Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner will be provided.

~We will be in Circle & Ritual all day.

Sunday:

~Breakfast will be provided.

~We will have our closing Circle and complete our Intensive by 1pm.

 LODGING &COST & Transportation:

~Various options/prices are available for Lodging onsite (private rooms, shared space, real beds, blow-up beds, camping). Beds are assigned on a first come/first serve basis with Application and Deposit.

MEALS: We will be dining together in community. Eleven meals will be provided for $150.  You may also choose to bring your own meals/cooler & ice or have a Partial Meal Plan.

LOCATION: We will be gathering together just 12 miles NW of downtown Asheville, NC at Brittany's Mountain Retreat.

Directions: We will be meeting  12 miles NW of Asheville, NC. The closest airport is AVL and is 40 minute commute one-way. The bus station is 30 minutes one way.   After you register, directions will be e-mailed to you.

Elder Theresa and a support staff team that was chosen by Elder Malidoma Somé will be of service to you as the guides through this epic connecting time and ritual intensive.

The Sacred Container for these 5-day intensives and radical rituals with be guarded by the Dagara Shrines that were installed on the land by Elder Malidoma Somé and Elder Theresa Sykes Brittany.
